20 goals for 2020

20 goals for 2020

Every January, I like to make a little list of what I see as measurable goals. I used to try and set the usual “resolutions”, but I quickly found that I was 1) making them for the sake of making them, and 2) never ever sticking to them.

I uploaded a list of goals I was hoping to achieve while I was 21 back in 2017, and found that I was pushing myself to try and get them done as I’d put it out in the public – so I figured, why not do it again with my goals for 2020? And hey, why not think of 20 in celebration of the year? (did you get that? Did you!?)

Obviously, some of these range in likelihood and effort. Funnily enough, I’d say I’m more likely to attend a music festival than I am to read ten books. Ten books probably sounds ridiculously achievable to some, but I just never make the time to sit down with a novel any more – so this post is here to make sure that I have to check back in a years’ time and report on how I got on with goals like that one.

Anyway, without further ado – here’s my 20 goals for the year of 2020:

  1. Attend a concert
  2. Redesign the blog
  3. Read at least 10 books (I didn’t even make it through two in 2019…)
  4. Travel abroad
  5. Meal prep at least once a month
  6. Write and post at least 50 blog posts
  7. Take up gardening
  8. Get more active on IG and upload at least once a week
  9. Start back at the gym – what’s a New Year without that on your list!?
  10. Watch at least five documentaries
  11. Get out of my student overdraft
  12. Reach 6,000 Twitter followers
  13. Buy less plastic
  14. Take up a (yet-to-be-decided) 30 day challenge
  15. Visit somewhere new
  16. Get to a music festival
  17. Learn a new skill
  18. Take more leisurely walks (running for the train does not count)
  19. Become more generous and donate more often
  20. Drink more water – and chart my sugary drink intake to make sure I cut down!

Have you set goals or resolutions for yourself in 2020? Or will you be trying any of these goals with me? Let me know below!

Love these! I’m working on improving my yoga practice, keeping a daily journal, switching to sustainable products, and learning Mandarin ๐Ÿ™‚

    • whathannahwrote

Ooh I would love to keep a daily journal! Mandarin would be AMAZING too – good luck!

  • Great goals for the year ahead, hope that you complete them ๐Ÿ™‚

Similar ones to my list include: learn new skill (mine new quest is learning to paint), also increasing my fitness (already working out 2-3 times a week). Good luck with your goals.

I love this list of goals โ€” I like how you have a combination of different subjects!

Love your list of goals, this is a great idea and I am so doing one up myself! Thanks for sharing. I would love to watch documentaries too and travel somewhere new and also have more interactions on Instagram as well๐ŸŒธ Happy 2020 girl and hope we can interact more often and be blogger friends! You have so many lovely goals! I like the fact that they’re realistic! Some people create goals, which are extremely difficult to reach. I hope you cross off all these goals this year. Happy New Years! xxx

Happy New Year to you too! I used to be so bad for doing that, or just setting really boring goals that I was never going to stick to… so hopefully I’ll be able to get through at least a few of these! xxx

  • Georgia

Oooo fitness and reading are my two challenges for this year! Good luck for all your goals and happy new year ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Lucy

These goals I’m sure you will achieve in 2020! I’d love to go to a concert this year too, not sure what one yet but we shall see! x

These are great. I love that gardening is on there – in theory I love the idea of gardening but I imagine Iโ€™d be useless at it ๐Ÿ˜‚ I also need to up the water and cut down on sugary drinks… eventually! I hope you do make time to read though, itโ€™s such a lovely way to relax!

    • whathannahwrote

I mean, I’m kind of the same… but I’m hoping I’ll turn out to be a secret gardening master and I’ll be really good at it hahaha! Yeah, I used to always go to bed with a book when I was younger and it was a much better way of falling asleep than my current method of staring at my phone!

  • Darina

Great goals. I hope you achieve all of them. 2020 is your year.

  • thoughtsfromjasmine

These are great goals! Can’t wait to see what 30 day challenge you decide on!

  • everythingevening

I’ll be joining you with heading to the gym and getting out of the overdraft! I love that you have some fun goals in there like attending a concert, good luck with your goals x

  • LauraLizBuckley

I love your goals! There’s a really nice variety there. I’ve got lots of things I want to try to improve or achieve this year, it’s exciting but also a little daunting. Here’s to a great 2020 for all of us!

    • whathannahwrote

Aw thank you – I just hope they’re achievable now! I love the idea of having a fresh start with a new year and getting to try out new things. Hope you have a great 2020 too!

  • Kayleigh Zara

Redesigning the blog is something that I’m desperate to do too! I’d love to visit a concert too, and watch more documentaries x

  • This is a great list of attainable goals! And I love that you’ve included so many fun items (it’s hard to actually prioritize fun!). Reading more books is definitely one of my resolutions, but it is hard to find the time (most of my “reading,” is listening to audiobooks in the car). Best of luck in 2020!

    • whathannahwrote

I quickly realised that I struggled with all the kind of traditional “strict” resolutions in previous years, so I’m hoping including a few fun things will work in my favour – only time will tell, I suppose! Best of luck to you too!

  • Lucy Cole

Love this! I’d love to get to another music festival this year… they’re always a highlight! Happy New Year xx

    • whathannahwrote

I love them! Iโ€™ve been getting to TRNSMT in recent years but Iโ€™d love to do a proper camping one again… Happy new year to you too! Xx

  • Paul Chiddicks

Best of luck with your Goals Hannah and Happy New Year

    • whathannahwrote

Thank you! Happy new year to you too!

    • Rochelle

I had a goal to read 12 books in 2019 (one per month) and I thought that would be achievable considering I’m an English student who LOVES reading, but I actually only read 5 aha

      • whathannahwrote

I felt like ten sounded so small, but that’s exactly why I set it low hahaha! I just never make the time to sit and read any more, unless I’m on holiday – which isn’t exactly very often!

  • Rachel Laws

Amazing goals! I relate to so many of these – all the best for 2020 <3 x

    • whathannahwrote

Thank you!! All the best to you too โ˜บ๏ธ x
